Why use Member Self Service?

There are many benefits of registering to use Member Self Service (MSS) and accessing your pension account(s) online.

MSS allows you to see your pension details in real time. So, you don’t have to wait for information through the post: you can go into your online account as often as you like.

Choose the device that suits you best. You can use MSS on your phone, tablet or laptop. Whichever device you use, you can reach MSS here.

There are other benefits to using MSS depending on whether you are:

  • Currently paying LGPS contributions
  • No longer paying LGPS contributions but you are not receiving your pension yet
  • Already receiving a pension from us

Currently paying LGPS contributions No longer paying LGPS contributions but you are not receiving your pension yet Already receiving a pension from us
Your Tasks Here you can see any actions you need to take. They will normally appear if we need you to give us some information, for example, if you’re retiring and we need you to return some forms.
Your Details In this section you can view the details we hold about you in your pension records, such as: your name, gender, date of birth, national insurance number, marital status, address, email address, and phone number. If any of your details change, updating MSS is the fastest way to let us know. You can change your address, email, and phone number in this section. If you want to update your name, please go to the ‘documents’ section and upload a copy of the certificate showing your name change. We will then update your record for you.

If you are a pensioner, you can update your bank details in this section too.

Employment Details This section shows your employer’s name, the date you joined LGPS, hours you have worked, previous pensions you have transferred into us, your pension contribution rate, and your current full time equivalent pay. This section shows your ex-employer’s name, dates you joined and left LGPS, hours you worked in that job, previous pensions you transferred into us, what contribution rate you paid with us, and your full-time equivalent pay at date of leaving.
Pension Benefits and Projectors This section shows you your most recent annual benefit statement and the value of your benefits as at 31st March.

The ‘Additional Benefits’ section shows if you have set up an Additional Voluntary Contribution (AVC) or transferred any previous pensions to us.

The ’Benefit Projectors’ can give you estimates based on:

  • resigning and taking your pension straight away
  • resigning but not taking your pension until later
  • death in service

This section allows you to work out the transfer value of your deferred pension if you want to transfer it to another pension scheme.

The ‘Additional Benefits’ section shows if you set up an Additional Voluntary Contribution (AVC) or transferred any previous pensions to us.

The ’Benefit Projectors’ can give you estimates based on:

  • what date you would like to take your deferred pension from
  • if you die before your deferred pension starts

‘Your Pension Benefits’ section confirms the current value of the pension you receive from us.

The ’Benefit Projectors’ can give you estimates of what benefits would be payable to your next of kin, if any, if you die while receiving your pension from us.

Death Grant Nomination(s) This section lets you tell us who you want to receive any grant that may be payable following your death. You can update this screen at any time if you want to update your beneficiaries.
Payroll In this section, you can see your P60s and payslips for the pension that you receive from us.
Documents Member Documents: This holds personal letters we have sent you, for example pension estimates you have requested or, if you have already retired, pensions increase letters.

Scheme Documents: This holds general newsletters and guidance notes.

Log into your account to view member or scheme documents at any time. From your dashboard, click ‘documents’, then choose ‘member documents’ or ‘scheme documents’.

Document Upload: You can complete and return forms online without having to worry about paper and postage. It’s the quickest, easiest and safest way to manage your pension.

Settings and Configuration This section lets you change your password or the answers to your security questions.
Contact Us This section lets you send a message directly to us instead of having to email us or write us a letter. You should receive a reply in 2 working days.

Switching to online copies of your documents makes it easier and faster to find them. It’s also a safe, secure way to store your personal information and better for the environment.

If you’re currently receiving printed documents from us and you want to switch to online versions, please go here to activate your MSS account.

MSS is always improving and developing to give you more information about your pension.
