About Us
The Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) for England and Wales is a work pension run across many LGPS Funds throughout England and Wales. The Clwyd Pension Fund covers the counties of Flintshire, Denbighshire and Wrexham. Flintshire County Council is the administrator of the Clwyd Pension Fund.
We look after over 52,000 pensions for members of the scheme who are:
- currently paying LGPS contributions and building up benefits, or
- no longer paying LGPS contributions but will start their pension at a later date, or
- already receiving their pension from us.
Currently, we pay over £70,000,000 in LGPS pensions each year.
We manage the fund in line with the LGPS rules and other pensions law, normally made by HM Revenue and Customs and HM Treasury.
We are also responsible for investing pension contributions, which are used to pay pensions to retired members.
We administer two different versions of LGPS:
LGPS
The main version of LGPS is for organisations such as County Councils, County Borough Councils, Community and Town councils, colleges, universities, and non-local government organisations who also have agreement to take part in LGPS.
If you work for one of these organisations and they tell you that LGPS is your work pension scheme, you can find out more in the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) section of our website.
Please note that other public sector staff such as Teachers, Police Officers, Fire Fighters, NHS and Judiciary staff do not belong to the LGPS. They have their own pension schemes.
LGPS Councillor
LGPS Councillor is only available for councillors of a Welsh County Council or County Borough Council. Councillors must opt into their version of the LGPS to pay pension contributions and build up a pension. We also manage this pension scheme for Flintshire County Council, Denbighshire County Council and Wrexham County Borough Council.
To find out more about this scheme, please go to the LGPS Councillor Scheme section of our website.
Flintshire County Council is the administrative authority for the Clwyd Pension Fund. This means it manages the Fund on behalf of all the employers paying contributions to the Fund.
The Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) is a statutory scheme established under a public general act. The scheme is a contracted-out salary related scheme exempt approved under Chapter 1 Part XIV: Income and Corporation Taxes Act 1988 (formerly Chapter II Part II: Finance Act 1970).
Any liability of Guaranteed Minimum Pensions (GMP) included in a transfer, will be subject to full revaluation under Section 148 Orders.
