Rejoining LGPS Councillor
If you have been a councillor before then become a councillor again, you may be able to combine your previous LGPS Councillor pension with your new pension. You can only do this if:
- Both pensions are LGPS Councillor and administered by the Clwyd Pension Fund
- You ask to combine pensions within 12 months of rejoining LGPS Councillor
Your council does have the discretion to extend this deadline, but they don’t have to.
Re-joining LGPS Councillor after opting out
You may have a deferred pension with us because you opted out of paying LGPS Councillor contributions while still a councillor.
If you opt out once, you can opt back into LGPS Councillor at any time if you are still a councillor and under age 75.
If you opt out of LGPS Councillor for a second time (or more), you will only be allowed to rejoin if your council agrees, unless you are opting back into the scheme within three months of starting at a new Welsh council.
You can ask your council for their policy on this.
