Types of employer
The Local Government Pension Scheme, or LGPS, is a public sector pension scheme for Local Government employees. Its rules are set by laws passed in Parliament.
The LGPS is administered by organisations such as County Councils, London Borough Councils, main Metropolitan District Councils, the London Pension Fund Authority and the Environment Agency. These are all known as Administering Authorities and are responsible for the separate LGPS Funds. The Administering Authority for the Clwyd Pension Fund is Flintshire County Council.
Employers who use LGPS as their work pension, fall into the following types:
Scheduled Employers | By law, these employers must allow their employees automatic membership of the LGPS, provided they qualify to join. They include County Councils, County Borough Councils, Further Education Colleges, and Local Authority Schools. |

Designated Employers | These employers have the power to state who or which groups of their employees can join the LGPS. Usually, they are Town and Community Councils, also known as Resolution Bodies. |
Admission Bodies | While the LGPS rules define scheduled and designated employers, there are certain other types of employer who can take part in the LGPS if the Clwyd Pension Fund agrees. These are called Admission Bodies:
These employers have to have an admission agreement that has been signed by them, the Clwyd Pension Fund, and the original employer. |
