Health and Life Cover
The Local Government Pension Scheme incorporates a life cover protection for all its members whether they are actively contributing, have contributed previously but have left the scheme or retired and are currently drawing a pensionable income.
There are various elements to pension benefits which are payable upon the death of a member.
An ongoing pension is provided for your spouse, registered civil partner or, subject to certain qualifying conditions, your eligible cohabiting partner and to your eligible children. You can find more information this can be found by clicking on the relevant tab to the left of this page.
Death Grant Lump Sum
A lump sum death grant will be payable should you die whilst contributing to the LGPS or if you die and have deferred benefits in the scheme. If you were to die within 10 years of receiving your pension, a death grant may still be payable, however, the benefits would be reduced accordingly.
You can express for the benefits to be paid to one or more individuals or organisations, however, if you do not name any beneficiaries the death grant may be paid to your personal representatives.
Under the LGPS Regulations the Clwyd Pension Fund retains absolute discretion with regards to the distribution of the benefits. For this reason, although Clwyd Pension Fund will have the greatest regards to your wishes, it is not legally bound by them.
